PDFoo 1.7.1 Release Notes

  • Bug fix where PDFoo User Guide would open on launch despite user preference not to do so, set in the Preferences > Behaviors tab.
  • Bug fix for PDF menu > Display sub-menu commands not updating their checked status correctly to match the PDF view (single page, double page, and other layouts)

PDFoo 1.7 Release Notes

  • Automatic assignment of Prefix: Now when you open a PDF in PDFoo, the PDF's filename will be used to automatically assign a prefix if one was not previously assigned. The first word in the filename will serve as the prefix, provided that: (1) it's no more than 10 characters, and (2) it's in lowercase. Therefore, if your PDF is named "codeword Sample Document.pdf", then PDFoo will assign the prefix "codeword" to the PDF.
  • Now you can more easily share PDFs with other Macs (your own Mac or a colleague's Mac) and when opened in PDFoo, the PDF will be automatically assigned a prefix based on the first word of the filename. After this automatic assignment, clicking on any pdfoo URLs will immediately jump to the right spot in the PDF.
  • PDFoo now shows a target icon on the page after following a pdfoo URL. This helps identify the exact location on the page that the URL pointed to.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Clicking a pdfoo URL when the associated PDF is not already open, now more reliably opens the correct page.
    • Annotation text was not correctly picked up for all annotations.

PDFoo 1.6 Release Notes

Now you can use quick single-key shortcuts to annotate text in PDFoo as your browse a PDF and create pdfoo hyperlinks.
Select text in the PDF and use the shortcut:
  • h to highlight the selected text
  • u to underline the selected text
  • x to delete an existing annotation on the selected text

These single-key shortcuts (h/u/x) are identical to the annotation shortcuts in the companion PDFSpeech app.

PDFoo 1.5.1 Release Notes

  • Bug fix for PDF annotations not exported correctly.

PDFoo 1.5 Release Notes

  • New option in Preferences → Behaviors: whether to automatically validate the Prefix and PDF links saved within the app. If so, the Prefix table will highlight in red the PDF links that are broken because the PDF file was moved or deleted. By default, automatic validation is now disabled. This prevents a situation where PDFs may have been linked on a network drive that has since become unavailable, and causes macOS to inconveniently prompt you to reconnect the drive when PDFoo opens. Whenever automatic validation is disabled, a "Validate" button is shown in the Prefix tab of PDFoo preferences to allow you to manually validate the links to PDF files on disk.

  • The PDF menu now has the option to display the PDF in book mode, which works great with either the "Two Pages" or "Two Pages Continuous" modes. For best results, use the "Collapse" button on the PDFoo toolbar to collapse the scratchpad and table of contents panes, to view the PDF clearly while browsing and extracting notes with PDFoo links.

PDFoo 1.4 Release Notes

  • Includes Sparkle mechanism for automatic updates in the future.
  • Dark mode support in macOS Mojave.
  • Fix for working with PDFoo URLs in markdown.
  • Updated User Guide.
