Updated February 2022. Requires macOS 10.10+.

Automagically add a table of contents to your PDF

PDFOutliner can intelligently build a table of contents for your PDF by analyzing the fonts used in the document. Or, you can specify your own font set to prescribe how headings should be mapped to build a TOC.

Specify your own font sets to build TOCs efficiently

Create font sets within the app by selecting sample headings in the PDF, and save the set as editable plain text files. When you've got another PDF with identical heading fonts, load the font set from disk, and let PDFOutliner automatically build the TOC for the new PDF.

Edit the table of contents using powerful tools

Select multiple TOC items and edit the text such as renaming, or adding a prefix or suffix. Clean up the TOC to make it really useful when browsing even in a narrow sidebar or on mobile devices with limited screen sizes.
